Texas Southern football coach Cris Dishman suspends two senior players over indiscipline

In a move that underscores the importance of discipline and accountability, Texas Southern University (TSU) football coach Cris Dishman has suspended two senior players for violations of team rules. The decision comes just weeks before the start of the 2024 season, shaking the program as it prepares for its opening games.

The two players, whose names have not been disclosed publicly, were expected to be key contributors to the Tigers’ squad this year. Sources close to the team suggest the disciplinary issue stemmed from multiple violations, ranging from missing team meetings to conduct that goes against the standards set by Coach Dishman.

Speaking on the matter, Dishman emphasized the need for leadership within the team, especially from senior players. “Our program is built on trust, respect, and discipline,” he said in a press briefing. “We have a standard here at Texas Southern, and no one is exempt from upholding that, whether you’re a freshman or a senior. These actions were necessary to maintain the integrity of our team.”

Dishman, a former NFL defensive back with a reputation for a no-nonsense coaching style, has instilled a strong sense of discipline in the TSU program since taking over. “Our team culture is everything. If we allow certain behaviors to slide, it sends the wrong message to everyone,” Dishman added. “We wish them the best and hope they take this as a learning moment.”

The suspensions have raised concerns about the team’s depth heading into the season, but the Tigers are determined to maintain their focus. Players and fans alike are rallying behind Dishman’s decision, with many praising his commitment to holding the entire team accountable. As the season draws closer, TSU is looking to move past this setback and continue building on their momentum.
