Tampa Bay RaysOutfielder Jonny DeLuca suffers broken hand, likely to miss 4-6 weeks

In a significant blow to the Tampa Bay Rays, outfielder Jonny DeLuca has been sidelined with a broken hand, an injury expected to keep him out of action for the next 4-6 weeks. DeLuca, a key player for the Rays this season, sustained the injury during a game against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.

The injury occurred in the top of the sixth inning when DeLuca was hit by a pitch on his left hand. Initially, he tried to stay in the game but was eventually replaced by a pinch hitter. After undergoing X-rays and further evaluation, it was confirmed that he had a fracture in his hand, leading to his immediate placement on the injured list.

Rays manager Kevin Cash expressed his disappointment over the loss of DeLuca, stating, “Jonny has been a crucial part of our lineup this year. Losing him for this period is tough, but we have confidence in our depth to step up and fill the gap.”

DeLuca, who has been hitting .287 with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs this season, has been a standout performer for Tampa Bay. His absence will likely lead to increased playing time for outfielders such as Manuel Margot and Randy Arozarena. Cash is optimistic that the team’s depth will help them navigate this challenging period.

In DeLuca’s absence, the Rays will look to maintain their strong performance as they push toward the playoffs. The team is hopeful for a swift recovery and looks forward to DeLuca’s return to the lineup, where his contributions will be eagerly awaited.
