Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is confident that quarterback Matthew Stafford will be ready to play in the team’s season opener against the Detroit Lions. Stafford had to leave a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday due to tightness in his hamstring. While it’s uncertain how much he’ll be able to practice this week, McVay isn’t concerned about Stafford’s availability for the September 8 game.
“If we need to take a cautious approach and miss a couple of days this week, he’ll still have 2 1/2 weeks to prepare for Detroit,” McVay said during a video call on Sunday.
The Rams are scheduled to practice on Monday and Tuesday at California Lutheran University before traveling to Houston for a joint practice with the Texans on Thursday. The Rams will then play their final preseason game against the Texans on Saturday.
Stafford, 36, threw for 3,965 yards and 24 touchdowns with 11 interceptions in 15 games last season, leading the Rams back to the playoffs after they missed out in 2022.
