Home Sweet Home: Taurean Green Returns to Florida Gators Men’s Basketball as Director of Player Development
The Florida Gators men’s basketball program is welcoming back a familiar face, as former star point guard Taurean Green returns to Gainesville to serve as the team’s new Director of Player Development. Green, a key figure in Florida’s historic back-to-back national championship runs in 2006 and 2007, brings with him a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond.

Taurean Green’s legacy at Florida is etched into the very fabric of the program. As the floor general of a team that included Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and Corey Brewer, Green’s leadership and clutch playmaking helped catapult the Gators to national prominence. His ability to control tempo, distribute the ball, and knock down big shots made him an indispensable part of Billy Donovan’s championship squads. Over his three seasons at Florida, Green averaged 10.3 points and 3.7 assists per game, becoming one of the most accomplished point guards in program history.
Following his collegiate success, Green was selected in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft and had a brief stint in the league before embarking on a lengthy and productive international career. His professional journey took him across Europe, where he played in countries such as Greece, Spain, and Turkey. This global perspective, combined with his foundational experience in one of college basketball’s most celebrated eras, equips him well for his new role with the Gators.
As Director of Player Development, Green will be instrumental in mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court. His responsibilities will include helping players grow their game, adapt to the demands of college basketball, and prepare for professional opportunities. Moreover, his firsthand knowledge of what it means to wear the Gators jersey will be an invaluable asset in shaping the team’s culture and instilling a championship mindset.
Head coach Todd Golden expressed enthusiasm about bringing Green into the fold, citing his leadership qualities and deep ties to the program. For Green, this is more than just a job—it’s a homecoming. His return symbolizes a full-circle moment, one that reconnects the past with the present and sets the tone for a promising future.
In every sense, it truly is “Home Sweet Home” for Taurean Green.
