BREAKING: Oklahoma Football Legend and 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee Donates $3 Million to His Alma Mater, Acknowledging Where His Talent Was Discovered
In a heartfelt and historic gesture, Oklahoma football icon and 2025 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Marcus “Thunder” Reynolds, has donated $3 million to his alma mater, Jefferson High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The donation, announced during a special assembly on Friday morning, marks one of the largest single contributions ever made to a public high school athletic program in the state.

Reynolds, who rose to national fame during his electrifying college career at the University of Oklahoma before a successful NFL run, spoke emotionally to students, faculty, and former coaches. “This is where it all started,” he said. “Jefferson High is where my talent was discovered, nurtured, and believed in. Without this school, I wouldn’t be the man I am today.”
The $3 million donation will fund a complete renovation of Jefferson High’s athletic facilities, including a state-of-the-art turf football field, upgraded weight room, new locker rooms, and scholarships for student-athletes with financial needs. A portion of the funds will also support academic tutoring services for athletes, ensuring they remain competitive both on the field and in the classroom.
Principal Dana Whitaker praised Reynolds’ commitment not only to the sport but to education. “Marcus has always been more than just a great player. He’s a leader, and this gift shows his deep belief in giving back to the community that shaped him,” she said.
Reynolds’ decision to give back comes just weeks after being officially named to the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class. His career included three Big 12 championships, a Heisman finalist appearance, and later, a Pro Bowl nod during his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys. Despite his accolades, Reynolds has remained deeply connected to his roots in Tulsa.
“I want every kid walking these halls to know they matter,” Reynolds said. “It doesn’t matter where you come from — if you’ve got the heart, the work ethic, and someone who believes in you, you can go far.”
This act of generosity has already begun to inspire students and staff alike. As Jefferson High prepares to break ground on the new “Marcus Reynolds Athletic Complex,” the legacy of a hometown hero continues to grow, proving that true greatness is measured not just in touchdowns, but in the lives uplifted along the way.
