The announcement was made earlier today at a packed press conference held inside the school’s newly renovated gymnasium, where Johnson gave an emotional speech about the importance of giving back and never forgetting where one’s journey began.
Johnson, widely regarded as one of the greatest to ever wear a Spartan jersey, had a stellar college career from 2011 to 2015, leading Michigan State to two Final Four appearances and earning All-American honors. He went on to enjoy a successful NBA career with the Detroit Pistons and later became an ambassador for youth development programs across the Midwest. Today, his contribution to the game and to his community has reached a new milestone.
