In a remarkable display of gratitude and commitment to his alma mater, a Florida State University (FSU) football legend and 2025 Hall of Fame inductee has pledged a $3 million donation to FSU. This generous contribution not only honors his legacy but also acknowledges the institution where his exceptional talent was first recognized.

The donor, whose identity aligns with that of Warrick Dunn—a former FSU running back who played from 1993 to 1996 and was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002—has directed the funds to several key areas:

  • Seminole Boosters: $1.5 million has been allocated to support FSU Athletics. This investment aims to enhance scholarships, facilities, and operational resources, ensuring that future student-athletes have the tools they need to excel both academically and athletically.
  • College of Business: $1.4 million is designated to establish the Warrick Dunn Endowed Professorship in Accounting and the Warrick Dunn Endowed Scholarship in Accounting. These endowments are intended to attract distinguished faculty and provide financial support to accounting students, fostering academic excellence within the business school.
  • College of Social Sciences and Public Policy: $100,000 will create the Warrick Dunn Endowed Graduate Scholarship in Public Administration. This scholarship honors Dunn’s commitment to public service and aims to support graduate students pursuing careers that contribute to the public good.

Dunn’s connection to FSU is deeply personal. His father, Hurdis Brock, was among the first in his family to attend college after World War II and served on the Fort Walton Beach City Council. This legacy of public service has profoundly influenced Dunn’s philanthropic endeavors. He stated, “We’ve been blessed throughout our lives and careers. As we developed our estate plan, we wanted to include a gift to Florida State University that would benefit faculty and students academically and athletically for generations.”

FSU President Richard McCullough expressed profound gratitude for Dunn’s foresight, noting that the gift reflects a deep devotion to the university and sets a commendable example for the entire FSU community.

This donation exemplifies the enduring bond between FSU and its alumni, highlighting how personal histories and values can lead to transformative contributions that benefit future generations.
