Forever a Florida State Icon: University Officially Renames Football Practice Facility ‘The Warrick Dunn Field,’ Honoring His Unparalleled Contributions and Solidifying His Place as a Seminole Legend
Florida State University has taken a powerful step to honor one of its most revered athletes, officially renaming its football practice facility “The Warrick Dunn Field.” The tribute immortalizes Dunn’s unmatched impact on and off the field, ensuring his legacy lives on for generations of Seminoles to come.
Warrick Dunn, who played for the Seminoles from 1993 to 1996, remains one of the most iconic figures in FSU football history. As a dynamic running back, he helped lead the team to its first national championship in 1993 under legendary coach Bobby Bowden. Dunn amassed over 3,900 rushing yards during his college career, earning All-ACC honors and solidifying his status as one of the top players in school history. But what truly separates Dunn is not just what he accomplished in pads, but what he has done with his platform since.

Beyond his stellar collegiate and professional football career, Dunn has become a national beacon of compassion and philanthropy. Through his charity, Warrick Dunn Charities, he has provided homes for hundreds of single-parent families, inspired countless youth through educational programs, and served as a model for what it means to give back. His efforts have drawn widespread recognition, and he continues to be celebrated not just as a football star, but as a humanitarian.
The decision to rename the field in his honor is more than symbolic—it’s a testament to the values Dunn represents: excellence, perseverance, humility, and service. FSU President Richard McCullough remarked during the ceremony, “Warrick Dunn exemplifies everything we want our students and athletes to be. His legacy extends far beyond the scoreboard. This field will now serve as a daily reminder to our athletes of what it means to lead with purpose.”
Dunn, visibly moved during the unveiling, spoke about the deep connection he maintains with the university and the pride he feels knowing his name will be tied to the program’s future. “This place shaped me,” he said. “To now have my name on the very field where tomorrow’s greats will train—it’s an honor beyond words.”
With the renaming of its practice facility, Florida State University has enshrined Warrick Dunn’s name into its physical and cultural foundation, honoring not just a football legend, but a Seminole for life.
