In a heartfelt ceremony filled with pride, nostalgia, and celebration, Auburn University has officially renamed its basketball practice facility to “The Chuck Person Court,” paying tribute to one of the most iconic figures in the school’s athletic history. This long-awaited honor cements Chuck Person’s enduring legacy as not just a former player, but a true pillar of the Auburn Tigers program.
Chuck Person, affectionately known as “The Rifleman” for his sharpshooting abilities, left an indelible mark on Auburn basketball during his time with the Tigers from 1982 to 1986. A dynamic forward with an exceptional scoring touch and fierce competitive spirit, Person remains the program’s all-time leading scorer, amassing an incredible 2,311 points. He led Auburn to its first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance in 1985 and was named SEC Player of the Year in 1985. His impact went far beyond the court—he set a standard of excellence that continues to inspire generations of Auburn athletes.
The dedication of “The Chuck Person Court” is not only a recognition of his on-court achievements but also a testament to his lifelong commitment to Auburn. After a successful NBA career, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors and played over a decade in the league, Person returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach, helping shape the next wave of Auburn talent.
