GREAT DEAL: Ohio State Buckeyes Rising Star Will Howard Invests $3.3 Million to Transform House Into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Columbus
In an inspiring act of generosity and leadership, Ohio State Buckeyes’ rising star quarterback Will Howard is making headlines off the field by investing $3.3 million into transforming a historic Columbus property into a shelter for homeless youth. The move has sent waves of admiration throughout the community, showcasing the athlete’s deep sense of social responsibility and commitment to uplifting vulnerable populations.

The property, located near downtown Columbus, will be repurposed into a state-of-the-art facility offering emergency housing, counseling, career training, and educational resources for at-risk youth aged 14 to 22. The shelter, which will be named “Howard House,” is expected to open its doors in early 2026. With homelessness among youth on the rise across the U.S., Howard’s initiative couldn’t be timelier.
“I’ve been given an incredible platform through football,” said Howard during a press conference on Wednesday. “But I know that true impact comes from what we do off the field. I wanted to create a space where young people who are struggling can find safety, support, and a path forward.”
Howard, who transferred to Ohio State in 2024 and quickly became a standout figure on the team, has also partnered with local nonprofits and youth advocacy groups to ensure the project addresses the most urgent needs of homeless teens. Plans for the shelter include private dorm-style rooms, therapy spaces, a community kitchen, and job readiness workshops. Volunteers from Ohio State and the broader Columbus area are already stepping up to assist in renovations and programming.
Community leaders have applauded Howard’s commitment. Mayor Andrew Ginther praised the young quarterback, stating, “This is more than just a generous donation—it’s a long-term investment in the future of our youth. Will Howard is setting an example not just for athletes, but for everyone.”
Howard’s move sets a precedent for college athletes in the name, image, and likeness (NIL) era, showing that newfound financial opportunities can also be used to create positive societal change. As the Buckeyes gear up for the next football season, fans have even more reason to cheer for their QB—not only for his plays on the field but for his heart off of it.
