For the fourth time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed with perhaps their most impressive performance of the season, led by Mahomes on a methodical eight-play opening drive and later aired it out a little like his vintage self, especially on a 49-yarder to Justin Watson on their second drive of the game. Although the run game sputtered (69 yards), it didn’t matter because Mahomes continued to give through the air on Christmas, finishing 29 of 38 for 320 yards, three touchdowns, and zero touchdowns.
Both tight end Travis Kelce and Watson caught touchdowns; Kelce grabbed eight balls for a game-high 84 yards. This may be the final game the Chiefs’ starters play this regular season because they secured the top seed and the corresponding opening-round bye. If so, what a fantastic way to start the playoffs, playing at a high level and having time to recover before the pursuit of an unheard-of Super Bowl three-peat starts.
