Rising hockey star Calum Ritchie has achieved another milestone in his young career. The Colorado Avalanche prospect was named an assistant captain for Team Canada at the upcoming World Junior Championships. This honor highlights Ritchie’s leadership skills and his ability to perform at the highest levels of the game.

The 19-year-old forward, drafted 27th overall by the Avalanche in 2023, has consistently impressed both on and off the ice. Known for his playmaking abilities, hockey IQ, and relentless work ethic, Ritchie has become a vital part of Team Canada’s quest for gold.

“It’s an incredible honor,” Ritchie said during a media availability. “To wear the maple leaf is always special, and to have a leadership role makes it even more meaningful. I’m excited to help lead this group of talented players.”

Team Canada’s head coach praised Ritchie’s maturity and poise, saying, “Calum is the kind of player every coach dreams of having. He leads by example, works hard every shift, and knows how to inspire his teammates. His selection as assistant captain was an easy decision.”

This year’s World Juniors will showcase an exceptionally skilled Canadian roster, and Ritchie’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in their success. With his NHL career on the horizon, Ritchie’s performance in the tournament could be a preview of the impact he’ll have with the Avalanche in years to come.

The World Junior Championships kick off in Gothenburg, Sweden, on December 26, with Team Canada aiming to defend their gold medal from last year.
