Sydney Roosters accepts offer from England’s Super League side for Lindsay Collins in a record rugby fee

In a groundbreaking move that is set to reshape the rugby landscape, the Sydney Roosters have accepted a record-breaking offer from England’s Super League side for star prop Lindsay Collins. The deal marks one of the highest transfer fees in rugby league history, signaling the growing financial power of the Super League and their ambition to attract top-tier talent from Australia.

Lindsay Collins, who has been a cornerstone of the Roosters’ forward pack, will now take his talents overseas in a deal reported to exceed previous transfer records. Collins, known for his physicality, tireless work rate, and leadership on the field, has been instrumental in the Roosters’ recent success. The 27-year-old Queensland representative was a standout in the 2023 State of Origin series, further elevating his value on the global stage.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson expressed mixed emotions about the transfer. “Lindsay’s been a huge part of our team, and it’s always tough to see a player of his caliber leave. But this is a tremendous opportunity for him, and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career,” Robinson said.

For Collins, the decision to move to the Super League was both challenging and exciting. “It’s a massive step, but I’m ready for it. Playing in England has always been something I’ve considered, and now the opportunity has come at the right time,” Collins stated.

The move signifies a shift in rugby league’s transfer market, with European clubs now willing to break the bank for elite Australian talent. As Collins prepares for his next challenge, his departure from the NRL leaves a significant void for the Roosters to fill ahead of the next season.
