North Queensland Cowboys coach Todd Payten believes his team has what it takes to silence their critics and secure a major trophy this season. Despite facing doubts from pundits and fans alike, Payten remains confident that the Cowboys are poised for success.
In a recent interview, Payten addressed the skepticism surrounding his squad, particularly after a challenging previous season. “People have written us off,” Payten admitted. “But I believe we’ve got the talent and drive to prove them wrong. Our goal is not just to be competitive—we want to win silverware.”
The Cowboys have made strategic offseason moves, bolstering their roster with key signings and emphasizing teamwork in their training sessions. Payten believes these changes have put the Cowboys in a strong position to compete at the highest level. “We’ve got a great mix of experience and young talent. Our squad is hungry, and everyone’s on the same page about what we want to achieve,” he said.
One of the team’s stars, Jason Taumalolo, echoed Payten’s sentiment, emphasizing the squad’s determination. “There’s a real buzz in the locker room. We know what we’re capable of, and we’re ready to go out there and show it.”
Payten is also focused on the mental toughness of his players, stressing the importance of staying resilient throughout the season. “The NRL is a tough competition. There will be ups and downs, but it’s how we handle those moments that will define us,” he explained.
As the season approaches, Payten remains unfazed by external noise. “Doubters will always be there, but we’re not worried about that. Our focus is on performing and bringing a trophy back to North Queensland.”
With Payten’s leadership and a determined squad, the Cowboys are gearing up to make their mark.
