Cronulla Sharks’ head coach, Craig Fitzgibbon, has brushed aside rumours of an impending exit, confidently affirming his strong relationship with the club’s board. Speculation had been swirling around Fitzgibbon’s future following a series of inconsistent performances this season, with some pundits suggesting the Sharks might be looking to move in a different direction.
However, Fitzgibbon firmly dismissed these claims, stating, “I’m here for the long haul. The board has been very supportive, and we’re all aligned in our vision for this team.” He added that while the Sharks had faced challenges, there was no doubt within the organization about his leadership and future at the club.
Fitzgibbon, who took over the Sharks in 2022, has overseen a period of growth for the team, including a return to finals football. Despite recent form dips, the coach emphasized that setbacks are part of building a successful squad. “It’s natural to face ups and downs in this game. We’re working hard behind the scenes to ensure we bounce back stronger next season.”
Club officials have also come out to back Fitzgibbon publicly, reaffirming their commitment to his leadership. Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta said in a statement, “Craig is an integral part of our future, and we’re fully behind him. His understanding of the game and rapport with the players make him the right man for the job.”
Fans, meanwhile, are divided. While some express frustration with the team’s recent results, others remain optimistic, trusting in Fitzgibbon’s long-term vision. For now, it appears that the coach’s position at Cronulla is secure, with both the club’s board and the man himself determined to silence any exit rumours.
