Wigan Warriors full-back Zak Hardaker charged with drink-driving

Wigan Warriors full-back Zak Hardaker has found himself in hot water after being charged with drink-driving. The incident occurred following a night out, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges, casting a shadow over his rugby league career.

Hardaker, who has been a key player for the Wigan Warriors, was stopped by police and found to be over the legal alcohol limit while driving. The club quickly acknowledged the situation, with Wigan Warriors releasing a statement expressing their disappointment over the player’s actions. The club confirmed that they are conducting an internal investigation alongside the legal proceedings, but have refrained from making any further comments until more details are known.

This is not the first time Hardaker has faced off-field controversies. The talented full-back has had a turbulent career, including a prior suspension for a failed drug test in 2017, which led to his dismissal from the Castleford Tigers. Since joining Wigan Warriors, Hardaker had been seen as a player who had turned his life around, focusing on his rugby career and making significant contributions to his team’s success. However, this latest incident threatens to derail his progress once again.

Wigan Warriors coach Adrian Lam voiced his concerns, stating, “We are disappointed with Zak’s actions. He’s a great player and has worked hard to be part of this team. However, these off-field issues need to be dealt with professionally, and we’ll support him through the process.”

The Rugby Football League (RFL) is also monitoring the situation closely and could impose additional sanctions depending on the outcome of the legal case. Hardaker now faces the daunting challenge of rebuilding his reputation both within his club and in the eyes of the public as legal proceedings unfold.
