Arizona State coach Kenny DIllingham furious with star QB over his “risky” playing style

Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham didn’t hold back after a recent game when asked about his star quarterback’s risky playing style. Known for his fiery passion and attention to detail, Dillingham was visibly frustrated during the post-game press conference. His target? The QB who, despite his undeniable talent, has been pushing the boundaries on the field, often to the detriment of the team.

“We need to be smarter out there,” Dillingham stated bluntly. “This is college football, not backyard football. Our quarterback has all the tools — the arm, the athleticism, the football IQ — but he’s got to learn to play within the system. You can’t win games consistently if you’re constantly taking unnecessary risks.”

The coach’s comments stem from a series of high-risk plays during the game, where the QB made off-balance throws into double coverage and scrambled recklessly instead of sliding or throwing the ball away. While some of those plays resulted in spectacular moments, others led to turnovers or missed opportunities, much to the frustration of Dillingham and his coaching staff.

“There’s a fine line between being aggressive and being reckless,” Dillingham added. “We love his confidence and his ability to make plays, but he has to understand when to dial it back. One bad decision can cost us the game.”

Despite the tough talk, Dillingham made it clear that he believes in his quarterback’s potential. “He’s a leader on this team, and I know he can do it. But if we want to win championships, he has to evolve. The great ones know when to take the shot and when to play it safe.”

With a critical stretch of the season ahead, all eyes will be on the quarterback to see if he can adjust his style and lead Arizona State to victory, without the unnecessary risks.
