BYU football fans have reason to celebrate as head coach Kalani Sitake has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Cougars through the 2027 season. The announcement, made by BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe, solidifies Sitake’s role in leading the program through its transition to the Big 12 Conference and beyond.
“Kalani is more than just a great football coach,” said Holmoe during the official announcement. “He’s a mentor, a leader, and the embodiment of BYU’s values on and off the field. We’re excited to have him continue to build on the success he’s brought to the program.”
Since becoming head coach in 2016, Sitake has compiled a 56-34 record, including several bowl appearances and the memorable 2020 season when BYU finished 11-1 and ranked 11th in the nation. His leadership has been instrumental in recruiting top talent and developing players who excel both athletically and academically. Under Sitake, BYU has continued to build its reputation as a national contender, particularly in the era of the College Football Playoff and NIL.
When asked about the extension, Sitake expressed gratitude and a deep sense of commitment to the university. “This is home. I’m grateful for the support from our administration, our players, and the fans,” Sitake said. “I’m excited about the future and what we can accomplish together as we take on new challenges in the Big 12.”
The extension through 2027 sends a clear message that BYU is committed to sustained success under Sitake’s leadership. As the Cougars prepare for the new chapter in their football journey, the coach’s continued presence will provide stability and confidence for the program moving forward.
