UTSA football reaching new heights under Jeff Traylor

Since Jeff Traylor took over as head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners in 2020, the football program has experienced a meteoric rise, transforming from a mid-tier team into a Conference USA powerhouse. Traylor’s leadership, energy, and culture-building approach have been the driving forces behind UTSA’s success.

In just his first season, Traylor led the Roadrunners to a 7-5 record, earning them a bowl appearance in the First Responder Bowl. This was a significant achievement for a program that had struggled to find consistency in the years prior. However, this was just the beginning of UTSA’s upward trajectory.

The 2021 season was a breakout year for the Roadrunners. Traylor guided the team to an impressive 12-2 record, clinching the program’s first-ever Conference USA Championship. UTSA also earned its first national ranking, reaching as high as No. 15 in the AP Poll. The combination of explosive offense, led by star quarterback Frank Harris, and a relentless defense, proved to be the key to their success.

Under Traylor’s guidance, the program has built a winning culture that attracts top talent. His recruiting efforts have brought in key players from Texas, further solidifying the team’s competitive edge. Traylor’s “#210TriangleOfToughness” mantra has resonated with players and fans alike, encapsulating the gritty and resilient identity of UTSA football.

As UTSA transitions into the American Athletic Conference (AAC), the program is poised to continue its upward trajectory. Traylor’s ability to develop talent, build a strong team culture, and adapt to challenges has made him one of the most respected coaches in college football.

The future is bright for UTSA, and under Traylor’s leadership, the Roadrunners are primed to reach even greater heights.
