Florida head coach Billy Napier has yet to discuss his future with the program following a 33-20 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday. When asked about any meetings concerning his job status, Napier told reporters that no such discussions have taken place, according to Nick Schultz of On3.com.
ESPN’s Chris Low reported that key boosters have raised the funds necessary for Napier’s contract buyout, which is estimated at $26 million.
Despite the speculation, Napier remains focused on Florida’s upcoming game against Mississippi State. “These are all hypothetical situations,” he said, as quoted by Schultz. “I’m trying to lead by example for our players, emphasizing the importance of focus on the next opportunity to improve.”
Napier, who signed a seven-year, $51.8 million contract with the Gators in December 2021 after a successful tenure at Louisiana, has struggled to replicate that success at Florida. He has a record of 11-14 in his first two years, including a 1-2 start to the 2024 season, marking Florida’s first losing record after three games in 32 years, per 247Sports’ Graham Hall.
With a 6-11 record against SEC teams, a loss to Mississippi State could further fuel speculation about Napier’s job security and a possible buyout.
