The Denver Broncos are optimistic heading into the 2024 season, expecting improvement across various positions. However, despite their upgrades, some players could underperform.
1. Greg Dulcich, TE
Greg Dulcich has shown promise, having a strong offseason and featuring in preseason games. However, his NFL career has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just 12 games over two seasons. With a history of hamstring issues, there’s concern that another injury could hinder his progress in 2024. While many hope for a breakout season, Dulcich’s injury history casts doubt.
2. Luke Wattenberg, C
Denver’s decision not to make significant changes at the center position is puzzling, especially after Lloyd Cushenberry’s departure to the Titans. Luke Wattenberg, a 2022 fifth-round pick, has limited experience, with only one NFL start. Although he won the starting job, the offensive line depth remains questionable. Wattenberg’s lack of proven ability makes him a potential weak link in an otherwise solid line. The Broncos may need to consider bringing in additional help if he struggles.
3. Brandon Jones, S
The Broncos’ signing of Brandon Jones raised some eyebrows. Jones has started just 30 of 54 career games, with his best performance coming in 2021. However, his production has declined over the last two years. With the release of Justin Simmons and Caden Sterns, there’s uncertainty about the strength of Denver’s safety group. PJ Locke III had a strong 2023 season, but Jones’ inconsistent play leaves room for concern. The Broncos may want to revisit the free agent market for safety reinforcements.
