On Tuesday’s episode of “The Joel Klatt Show,” college football analyst Joel Klatt shared his enthusiasm about the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ resurgence this season, especially following their dominant 28-10 win over the Colorado Buffaloes last Saturday. Nebraska, which has struggled since former head coach Bo Pelini’s departure in 2014, appears to be on the upswing in its second season under head coach Matt Rhule. Klatt noted that the Nebraska fanbase, which has been yearning for a consistently competitive team for nearly two decades, might finally see their wishes fulfilled this fall. Klatt said, “It was amazing to see that environment. Nebraska fans have been hoping for something real for about twenty years. They’ve shown up every Saturday, and this was their 398th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska used to set the standard in college football, and their fans have been starving for any sign of that greatness. They just wanted a competitive team, and now they have something to be proud of. What I predicted in the preseason is coming true: Nebraska is becoming a serious contender.”
Klatt acknowledged that while Nebraska’s victory over Colorado may not fully reflect their overall potential this season, the team boasts a talented roster, especially with quarterback Dylan Raiola. “Colorado might not be a great team—maybe a four to six-win team—but Dylan Raiola is impressive. He doesn’t play like a true freshman. His movement, arm strength, and accuracy are outstanding. He stays calm under pressure, and it’s not just because he’s facing little pressure. Raiola is more than just a net positive for Nebraska; he’s becoming a key factor. The defense also looks solid, which I anticipated.”
Looking ahead, Klatt emphasized that for Nebraska to build on their success under Matt Rhule, they must consistently win games they are expected to win and maintain the confidence they showed against Colorado. Klatt observed, “Nebraska needs to continue winning games they should win. In the past, they’ve struggled with close games and turnovers, which led to losses. If they can secure the ball and play like they did against Colorado, they’ll be dangerous. The team was highly motivated and played with great energy. I’m thrilled that Nebraska is back because their fanbase deserves it.”
Nebraska will aim to keep their momentum going on September 14 when they face the Northern Iowa Panthers at Memorial Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
