On Monday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh addressed the media, discussing star running back Derrick Henry, who had 46 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in last Thursday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the 27-20 defeat, Harbaugh remains optimistic about the team’s future. He explained, according to the team’s official transcript:
“We didn’t bring Derrick here to be a 30-carry-a-game back. He’s done that in the past, but that’s not our plan. Our approach is to involve Derrick, Lamar, Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor in the offense.”
It seems that Derrick Henry may no longer have the stamina for such a heavy workload. The team will need more contributions from their other running backs going forward.
Lamar Jackson led the team in rushing during Week 1, with 122 yards on 16 carries and a 7.6 yards per carry average, although he did not score any touchdowns. If Jackson continues to take risks with his rushing, he could face injury, making it essential for the Ravens to get additional rushing support. Justice Hill, who had just three yards on one carry, may need to be more involved. The Ravens will face the Las Vegas Raiders at home in Week 2, and it will be interesting to see if the offensive strategy changes.
