Ontario Reign head coach Marco Sturm has firmly dismissed rumors of a rift between him and star player Alex Turcotte following alleged disciplinary issues. The speculation began after Turcotte was absent from the lineup in the team’s last two games, sparking concerns among fans and media about possible internal conflicts.
Addressing the rumors, Sturm clarified the situation during a press conference. “There is absolutely no fallout between Alex and myself,” he said. “Alex is a valuable part of this team, and any decisions regarding his playing time are strictly related to strategy and his physical condition.” The coach emphasized that Turcotte’s absence was due to a minor injury that required precautionary rest and had nothing to do with any disciplinary measures.
Turcotte, a former fifth overall pick by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2019 NHL Draft, has faced a challenging season with injuries and adjustments, but remains a key figure in the Reign’s long-term plans. When asked about the alleged tension, Turcotte echoed his coach’s sentiments, stating, “Coach Sturm and I have a great relationship. We both want what’s best for the team. I’m committed to coming back stronger and helping the Reign win.”
The rumors have nonetheless raised questions about the dynamic within the Reign locker room, particularly as the team battles for a playoff spot in the highly competitive American Hockey League (AHL). Sturm, known for his straightforward coaching style, insisted that maintaining a united front is crucial as the team looks ahead to crucial games.
“We have a fantastic group here, and our focus is on winning. Any distraction from that is just noise,” Sturm reiterated. “We are all on the same page.”
With both coach and player denying any fallout, it appears the Ontario Reign are determined to stay focused on their playoff ambitions, putting any talk of internal discord firmly to rest.
