Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian recently highlighted a significant concern that could impact his team’s success this season — the offensive line. Speaking at a press conference, Sarkisian noted the unit’s inconsistency in providing solid protection for the quarterback and creating running lanes for the backfield.
“We have to get better, and we have to get better fast,” Sarkisian said. “Our offensive line is young, and there are growing pains, but we can’t afford to let those dictate our season.”
The Longhorns’ struggles in pass protection were evident during their preseason scrimmages, with several plays breaking down due to a lack of blocking support. Sarkisian emphasized the importance of addressing these issues immediately to avoid further complications as the season progresses.
To combat these challenges, Sarkisian and his coaching staff are focusing on refining technique and ensuring every lineman understands their assignments. They’re also incorporating more high-pressure practice scenarios to simulate game conditions.
“It’s a work in progress,” Sarkisian admitted. “But if we can improve in the trenches, we have a real shot at competing for the Big 12 title this year.”
Urgent improvements are not just ideal but necessary for the Longhorns to achieve their championship aspirations.
