After failing to secure game time, Huddersfield youngster moves to League One side Salford City

Huddersfield Town midfielder Josh Austerfield has transferred to Salford City for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old left the Terriers over the weekend to join the League Two side, signing a two-year contract with the Ammies.

This move concludes Austerfield’s 14-year tenure with Town, where he progressed through the academy to make six first-team appearances, including three in the Championship last season.

Austerfield had six loan spells during his time with Huddersfield, playing for Brighouse Town, Hyde United, Morecambe, Crewe Alexandra, and twice with Harrogate Town.

Last season, the midfielder spent the second half on loan at Crewe in League Two, where he made 21 appearances, including in the play-off final at Wembley, where Crewe lost 2-0 to Crawley Town.

Austerfield now returns to League Two with Salford City, who have so far recorded one draw and one defeat in their first two league games of the season.
