Three new changes fans can expect from the Wildcats this season in the Brennan era

Brent Brennan has taken over as the head coach of the Arizona football team, stepping in for Jedd Fisch in 2024. Before this, Brennan revitalized a struggling San Jose State program, leading the team to a 34-48 record over seven seasons and three bowl appearances, which matched the total bowl appearances the team had in the 26 years prior to his tenure. This role at San Jose State was Brennan’s first head coaching position, but he previously spent time on the coaching staff there under former Arizona head coach Dick Tomey.

Brennan has a history with Arizona football, having observed the program during his time as a wide receiver at UCLA in the 1990s and later as the wide receivers coach at Oregon State from 2011 to 2016. During his time at Oregon State, he coached several top wide receivers, including Brandin Cooks, who won the 2013 Biletnikoff Award. Now at Arizona, Brennan will work with another promising wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, who is close to breaking the school’s career receiving yards record.

Brennan is recognized for his offensive expertise, having led San Jose State to a top-five finish in total offense in the Mountain West Conference four times in his last five seasons. Arizona’s roster, under Brennan, boasts more talent than he’s worked with since his days at Oregon State.

Brennan’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Hawaii in 1998, followed by similar roles at Washington and Arizona. He then served as an assistant coach at Cal Poly and a special teams coordinator at San Jose State before becoming a head coach. Despite not having been an offensive or defensive coordinator, Brennan’s success at San Jose State has earned him significant respect in the coaching community. Arizona will face challenges in their first season under Brennan’s leadership.
