The Denver Broncos raised some eyebrows when they selected Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, it seems the former Oregon star quickly convinced the team that he was exactly who they needed.
One of the key stories in Broncos training camp this summer is whether first-round pick Bo Nix can demonstrate the potential to secure the starting quarterback role. In his preseason debut, Nix took a significant step toward achieving that goal.
Nix impressed by completing 15 of his 21 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown over four scoring drives, making the Broncos look wise for their choice. Although some initially thought Denver reached by drafting him at 12th overall, believing he might have been available later in the first round or even in the second, it appears Nix’s pre-draft performance won over the Broncos’ decision-makers early on.
Bo Nix preseason stats: 15-21 passing, 125 yards, 1 touchdown.
According to The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Broncos knew after just 16 throws at Nix’s private workout that he was their guy. Following a conversation with Broncos head coach Sean Payton, Russini noted that Nix has been commanding the huddle and mastering the playbook, with Payton excited about their potential QB/coach partnership.
While Nix will undoubtedly face a learning curve in his rookie year, the early feedback from training camp is overwhelmingly positive.
