Michigan State RB Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams ready to prove himself for the Spartans

When Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams steps onto the field for Michigan State’s season opener against Florida Atlantic on Aug. 30, it won’t be his first time at Spartan Stadium.

Lynch-Adams has taken a winding journey to East Lansing. Back in 2020, he was a sophomore at Rutgers when the infamous multi-turnover game marked the beginning of Mel Tucker’s era.

Since then, Lynch-Adams has experienced a lot. After leaving Rutgers, he ended up at UMass, where he became a standout in the backfield for the Minutemen in 2023.

Now a sixth-year senior, Lynch-Adams is eager to make the most of his return to the Big Ten, this time with the Spartans.

Michigan State running backs coach Keith Bhonapha shared insights with Stephen Brooks from SpartanTailgate about Lynch-Adams’ journey.

“I asked him why he left Rutgers, and he said he was immature and probably should’ve stayed,” Bhonapha said. “As soon as he said that, I knew he was the kind of guy I wanted in my room. Self-awareness is a quality many people lack, but he has it.”

Lynch-Adams’ earlier immaturity led to his transfer to a smaller program, but his growth since then has been significant, and now he’s back in the Big Ten where he belongs.

The combination of Nate Carter and Lynch-Adams looks promising, and there are high hopes for both running backs this season.

Except for Kenneth Walker III’s standout year, Michigan State hasn’t seen a running back rush for over 1,000 yards in a season since Jeremy Langford did so in 2014. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.

That success was a hallmark of Michigan State football, and it seems Jonathan Smith and his staff are doing everything to support their running backs this season.
