Tadej Pogačar, the Slovenian cycling sensation, recently became emotional as he reflected on the immense sacrifices his family made to support his career. During a heartfelt interview, Pogačar, who has won multiple Tour de France titles, spoke candidly about the journey that led him to the pinnacle of the sport.
“My parents worked tirelessly, often putting their own dreams on hold to ensure I had every opportunity,” Pogačar said, his voice cracking with emotion. “They believed in me even when I doubted myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
Pogačar recounted how his family’s financial situation was often stretched thin, with his parents prioritizing his training and equipment over their own needs. “I remember my mom skipping meals so I could have the best gear. My dad took on extra shifts, working late into the night. They never complained, but I knew it wasn’t easy.”
As tears welled up in his eyes, Pogačar shared a moment that particularly stands out to him. “When I won my first major race, I called my parents immediately. My dad just said, ‘We knew you could do it, son.’ It broke me because I realized how much they had given up for me to have that moment.”
Now a global cycling icon, Pogačar is determined to make his family proud and repay their sacrifices. “Every pedal stroke is for them. They’re the real champions,” he concluded, his voice filled with gratitude and resolve.
