Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar was recently seen having a relaxed coffee ride with his girlfriend, just days after withdrawing from the Paris Olympics due to her exclusion from the Games.
On Monday, the Slovenian Olympic Committee announced that Pogacar had withdrawn from the Olympics, citing “extreme fatigue” as the reason. This decision came less than a day after his victory at the Tour de France in Nice and right before his scheduled road race on August 3.
Despite his withdrawal, Pogacar participated in a criterium race on Tuesday evening. He told the media that his decision to withdraw was partly influenced by the exclusion of his fiancée, Urska Zigart, from the Olympic team.
Over the weekend, Pogacar and Zigart were seen enjoying a casual outing with Irish cyclists Sam Bennett and Eddie Dunbar at a café in Villefranche, South of France. The group was seen enjoying cans of Coke and dessert.
Pogacar, who met Zigart at a cycling training camp in Slovenia, mentioned earlier this week that Zigart’s omission from the Olympics played a role in his decision to pull out. He praised her accomplishments and expressed disappointment that she was not selected, despite her impressive results this year.
The couple, who live together in Monaco and got engaged in September 2021, seem to be taking the opportunity to enjoy some time together following the recent events.
