Georgia Tech senior center Weston Franklin (Jesup, Ga./Wayne County H.S.) has been named to the 2024 Outland Trophy preseason watch list, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America on Tuesday. The Outland Trophy is awarded to college football’s top interior lineman.
Franklin has started 25 consecutive games at center for the Yellow Jackets over the past two seasons and logged 884 offensive snaps in 2023. He played a crucial role in an offensive line that helped Georgia Tech lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing offense (203.8 ypg – 12th nationally) and fewest sacks allowed (1.15 pg – 15th) last year.
Franklin is among four returning starting offensive linemen and eight overall offensive starters for Georgia Tech in 2024. The Yellow Jackets ranked third in the ACC and 35th nationally in total offense (424.6 ypg) last season.
He is one of just 14 centers included on the 75-player Outland Trophy watch list.
The winner of the 79th Outland Trophy will be revealed during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show, airing live on ESPN on December 12. The official presentation will take place at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 22, 2025.
Franklin is the third Yellow Jacket to be named to a college football award watch list this preseason, joining QB Haynes King and RB Jamal Haynes, who were added to the Maxwell Award (national player of the year) watch list on Monday.
Georgia Tech’s 2024 season kicks off on August 24 against Florida State in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. The game will start at noon ET and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
