The “Bayou Barbie” is making headlines once again. Just weeks after leading her team to victory while sporting a full set of nails, false lashes, and a sew-in, Louisiana State University basketball star Angel Reese has been named the newest brand ambassador for Mielle Organics.
“Angel embodies bold beauty, confidence, and strength, and her genuine love for Mielle products makes her an ideal fit for our brand,” said Monique Rodriguez, founder and CEO of Mielle Organics, in a press release. “Her vibrant personality and authentic connection with her fans make her a perfect addition to the Mielle family. We are thrilled to have her on board.”
This announcement comes amid discussions about the lack of beauty sponsorships for top women’s basketball players, a gap Reese herself has noticed. “Athletes are perfect beauty icons and brand ambassadors,” Reese said in the release. “I expressed my desire to collaborate with more beauty brands, and I’m ecstatic to partner with Mielle. I’ve been a long-time user and fan of their products, so this collaboration is ideal.”
With Reese recently securing a spot on Team USA’s roster for the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, it’s clear that more beauty endorsements are likely on the horizon. Let this be just the start of a lasting connection between women’s basketball and the beauty industry, rather than the end.
