UNC’s Brown gets year added, pay bump to $5M

Chapel Hill, NC – The University of North Carolina has extended head football coach Mack Brown’s contract by one year and given him a pay raise to $5 million annually. The announcement comes after a season marked by substantial improvement and optimism for the future of the Tar Heels football program.

“Mack has done an incredible job since returning to Carolina,” said UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham. “His leadership and vision have revitalized our program, and we are thrilled to ensure his presence here for another year.”

The extension means Brown will remain at the helm through at least the 2025 season. The 72-year-old coach, who led the Tar Heels to an 8-4 record last season and an appearance in the ACC Championship Game, expressed his gratitude during a press conference.

“I’m deeply honored and thankful for the confidence Bubba and the university have shown in me and our staff,” Brown said. “We have unfinished business here, and I’m excited about what we can achieve in the coming years.”

Senior quarterback Drake Maye also shared his excitement about Brown’s extension. “Coach Brown has brought so much energy and wisdom to our team. Knowing he’ll be here for the remainder of my college career is reassuring. We’re all ready to work even harder.”

The pay raise reflects Brown’s success in recruiting and player development. Under his leadership, the Tar Heels have consistently landed top-tier talent, including several high-profile recruits for the upcoming season.

As Brown continues to build on his legacy, the Tar Heels faithful are optimistic about the future. “Mack Brown has already turned things around in a short time,” said longtime fan Sarah Johnson. “With him staying longer, the sky’s the limit for Carolina football.”
