Louisville football received a significant boost to their 2025 recruiting class today with the commitment of 4-star edge rusher CJ May. The former Notre Dame commit chose Louisville over Auburn, Syracuse, and Washington, while also holding offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Clemson, Texas A&M, Miami, Penn State, and others.
May is the first composite 4-star in the class and is a great addition for Ron English and the Louisville defensive staff. Standing at 6-4 and 230 pounds, May has a frame that can add more weight once he gets to college. As a pass rusher, May displays inconsistent technique, but when he uses proper technique, it is highly effective. Although his arms aren’t unusually long like some other highly-rated edges, May possesses excellent athleticism and skills.
Under Jeff Brohm, Louisville has focused on the transfer portal, and this approach is unlikely to change given the number of players they will need to replace after this season. May still has a strong chance of seeing the field as a freshman. If he arrives in the spring, he could increase his weight by the fall and contribute as a package player and on special teams. The biggest question is whether he will play at the LEO position or as a defensive end. He has the potential to excel at either.
