Former UNC football standout Drake Maye was a top quarterback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, ultimately being selected third overall by the New England Patriots. He was one of six quarterbacks taken within the first 12 picks.
Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, shared his thoughts on the most NFL-ready rookie quarterback. Without hesitation, Stroud pointed to Maye.
“I feel like Drake Maye is the most NFL-ready. His arm talent is immediately noticeable on tape. One mistake I made early on was moving around too much and not getting the ball out on time. Maye, however, scrambles only when necessary and throws to open receivers. He has raw ability and different arm angles. I like Drake Maye.”
Stroud praised Maye’s arm talent, intelligence in the backfield, and ability to roll out, strengths that were evident during Maye’s two seasons as the starting quarterback for UNC.
While Jacoby Brissett is currently considered the favorite to start for the Patriots, there is still ample time for Maye, whom the Patriots see as their franchise quarterback, to rise on the depth chart. It’s only a matter of time before Maye takes the reins of the Patriots’ offense, signaling a bright future for the former UNC star.
