Is it too soon to start discussing the NFL Draft? With the 2024 season underway and training camps in full swing across the country, the Washington Commanders are undergoing significant changes. From new ownership to a complete roster overhaul, the team is working to rebound from a disappointing four-win season.
The Commanders aim to rebuild into a competitive team, and that will involve acing the upcoming drafts to secure top talent. The recent No. 2 overall pick, Jayden Daniels, could potentially become the franchise quarterback Washington needs. If Daniels proves to be the answer, the Commanders will be able to focus on acquiring the best available talent in the 2025 NFL Draft, tailored to fit their evolving game plan.
In a pre-season mock draft by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, the Commanders are projected to select Colorado’s Travis Hunter, a standout who excels on both offense and defense. Sobleski noted, “Travis Hunter may not be the top cornerback in the draft, with contenders like Michigan’s Will Johnson and Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison also in the mix. Hunter might be the first corner selected or could even be considered as a wide receiver, depending on how teams project him.”
The Commanders could greatly benefit from Hunter’s versatility. He would enhance the secondary alongside Emmanuel Forbes and could replace Benjamin St-Juste, who is set to become a free agent after this season. Additionally, Hunter’s offensive skills could complement Washington’s receiving corps, including Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.
Adding Hunter to a roster already featuring Daniels would provide the Commanders with a dynamic and flexible team as they continue their rebuild.
